Six categories, and what tends to go wrong

Browsing is more fun when you know what you are looking at, so each category below comes with its own tells: what a good listing looks like, the trap that catches people, what to check in the photographs, and what to confirm before ordering. None of it is complicated, and knowing it turns a browse into a shortlist.

Notes by category

Six categories, each with the one thing most likely to disappoint.

1Sneakers

Good for: Tag and sole photographed, and the seller's record stays steady.

Confirm: That the tagged size is the size you wanted.

QC focus: Ask for the size tag and a clean shot of the sole.

Trap: Catalogue photos and a figure well under every other row.

2Hoodies

Good for: Fabric weight stated, with a close-up of the fleece backing.

Confirm: Fabric weight — the single biggest source of hoodie disappointment.

QC focus: Check the fleece and ask for it to be weighed if weight matters.

Trap: No weight figure appears anywhere in the listing.

3Jackets

Good for: Lining, hardware and padding all shown and stated.

Confirm: Packed volume, since bulky items cost more to move.

QC focus: Ask for a lining shot, then ask about reducing packaging.

Trap: Only the outside is photographed, hiding a thin lining and bulky packing.

4Pants

Good for: A chart in centimetres comes with the row.

Confirm: Waist and inside leg, both given in centimetres.

QC focus: Ignore the letter entirely and use your own measurements.

Trap: Letter-only sizing, which causes most fit complaints.

5T-shirts

Good for: Composition stated and collar stitching shown close up.

Confirm: Composition and weight before comparing prices.

QC focus: Get the collar photographed up close.

Trap: One distant photo at a suspiciously low price.

6Accessories

Good for: You get the material list plus close-ups of the fittings.

Confirm: That branded items are ones you are comfortable declaring.

QC focus: Zoom on stamps and clasps.

Trap: Where branding errors concentrate.

Public material collected to make browsing calmer. Live prices sit on the marketplaces themselves.
